Senior Model :: Kaitlyn ~ Class of 2018

Meet Kaitlyn! She is part of our Senior Model Program, which is something new we started this year. While I have photographed many senior portraits, I’v never run a model program before. If you’ve never heard of this, don’t worry. It just means you probably don’t have high school aged kids yet or you graduated before this type of thing was a “thing”. I have a great group of Folsom students, all graduating in 2018. They will each do a series of sessions over the course of the year (starting late Junior year). During that time they will share their images in hopes of earning referrals. For each senior portrait referral they send my way, they earn prints, products and bonus sessions. It’s a great way to get LOTS of photos for less expense, if you are willing to put in the work.

Okay enough of the details on THAT…on to this gorgeous Class of 2018 Folsom High senior!! This is our second session together and I love how she styled this one. I let my seniors decide what to wear (with some guidance) and even have input on the location. After all, this is about THEM, not me. We had so much fun adventuring around Folsom Lake. If you live around here you know it’s hot right now, so we finished the session with a little dip in the lake to cool off.

You’ll see more of Kaitlyn this Fall after her next session. Until then, enjoy this sneak peek (click to enlarge).

Folsom Family Portraits :: Lake Natoma Fun

It may seem like all my sessions are taken in the same place…they really aren’t! But I have been so ecstatic over the re-opening of a trail near my house and studio that I just can’t seem to stay away. It’s a great spot for families, seniors and engagement sessions. So you’ll probably see a lot more from this area for a while…

On to these cuties! I met little Cameron last Winter when his parents brought him in for a holiday mini-session at the studio. They were smart enough to take advantage of my summer special, bringing grandma and grandpa with them for a full family session. Cameron was not too sure about all the fuss at first, but one thing is for sure; he loves his grandparents!

Enjoy a sneak peek at this adorable Folsom Family (click to enlarge).

Makenna :: Class of 2018

Makenna is graduating from Folsom High School in 2018. She’s a busy athlete with a summer job, so having her senior portraits done before the school year begins was the perfect time for her. Plus the evening weather and golden light are perfect this time of year in the foothills. I took Makenna on an adventure around one of my favorite locations; Coloma State Park. There are so many great backdrops, and with a model like Makenna, you just can’t take a bad photograph!

Congrats Makenna! I hope your senior year is your best yet. Thanks for trusting me to capture these moments for you!

Welcome Home Cade :: Garden Valley Family Photography

Welcome home Cade! I just love seeing my wedding clients grow their families. I traveled out to Garden Valley last week to document the newest addition to the R family. Boy is he a cutie! His big brother still isn’t too sure about him, but I think he will grow on him eventually. Congratulations on a healthy, handsome little boy!

Folsom Engagement Session :: Anneliese + Kyle

Check out this cute Folsom engagement session. Anneliese and Kyle will be married this Fall at The Firehouse in Old Sacramento. I LOVE their venue and can’t wait to capture their special day! These two were so fun to work with and you could just tell they really enjoyed being together. Not everyone is a fan of having their photo taken (aka most of the grooms) but these two were up for the adventure! Anneliese didn’t even mind having the wind blowing through her hair as we were all chauffeured around Historic Folsom in our golf cart by my trusty “assistant” (aka husband). We had so much fun together, as you can see!

Here is a little peek at their engagement session in Historic Folsom. Enjoy! (click to enlarge)

Oh Hello :: Meet Baby Aubrey

Meet Baby Aubrey! Isn’t she just the cutest? She surprised her parents (and photographer!) by arriving a little earlier than expected, but we were able to get her into the studio for her first photo session at just 8 days old. She was such a trooper and really just wanted to sleep. Milk + tropical temperatures make a great recipe for a happy, snoozy baby! Enjoy this first peek at Baby Aubrey.

Meet Luke :: Folsom Newborn Portraits

Meet Luke. Just 5 days old here! These Folsom newborn portraits were done in the client’s home, as opposed to the studio. The nice thing about shooting in your home is that you don’t have to pack everything up with a brand new baby to get to the studio. You can incorporate more of your own style and props into the session. This is more of a lifestyle session instead of doing a lot of posing and props. Of course, the studio is great too! You don’t have to clean your house or worry about lighting, props or any distractions. You choose what works best for you and your family!

Luke was a little late to the party by showing up about 10 days late. He was just too cozy! But now he is here and you can expect lots more photos of him and his big brother Levi soon!

Adventures with Diana :: Beauty, Boudoir, Yoga

Oh Diana! How many shoots have we done now?? This Goddess is a dear friend and absolute inspiration to me. Every time we work together, it’s magical. I say work, but it doesn’t feel like “work”. It’s more of a collaboration of sorts. It’s definitely a team effort. And part of that team is Christi Reynolds Beauty, another Goddess and friend of mine, responsible for Diana’s gorgeous hair and makeup on this day.

Diana, thank you for going on yet another photo adventure with me. Where will we go from here? (click to enlarge)

Folsom Lake Sunset :: Shooting for Fun

And now for something completely different…photos without people in them! My love for photography started with nature. From a young age I’ve always had a good eye and a love of travel. This combination resulted in me getting some pretty amazing shots from some beautiful places over the years. But when photography is your job, you don’t always get a chance to shoot for fun. As I was driving home from a portrait session in Coloma last week, the sky was so breathtaking that I raced to one of my favorite locations to capture it. I had all of my gear with me and the timing could not have been better. The images you see here, while they have been slightly enhanced for the internet and print production, are completely natural. I did not add clouds or color. The sky was on fire!

If you like what you see, you can purchase any of these images (and other from my local and international travels) right HERE. Those bottom three images would look AMAZING hanging next to each other on the wall. I recommend having them printed on metal or metallic paper.

Sacramento Summer Wedding :: Sanne & David at The Firehouse

Sacramento Summer weddings can be HOT, but Sanne and David lucked out with double digit temperatures for their June 3rd wedding. The Firehouse courtyard provided some nice shade for guests.  Their brick walls, towering trees and white lights are a perfect backdrop for an evening of love, libations and dancing!

Our afternoon started at The Embassy Suites for some pre-wedding photos of the guys and gals. After a short but sweet ceremony, our photo adventure began with a walk to the Tower Bridge and then to the train station. Now it was time to party! Cover Me Badd kept guests on the dance floor all night with their stellar performance. It was one of those weddings that you just didn’t want to end!

Sanne & David’s special day was made possible with these vendors:

Getting Ready: Embassy Suites Old Sacramento

Ceremony & Reception Location: The Firehouse Restaurant

Floral: O’Shay’s Flowers and Antiques

Cake: Freeport Bakery

Live Band and MC: Cover Me Badd

Makeup: Southern Belle By MariaNoel

Hair: Maritza

Photography: Amber Shoop Felts and Aaron Roseli for Shoop’s Photography

And now for a sneak peek of their day! (click to enlarge)
